Found a Yank!
(Anonymous) 2014-12-03 05:18 am (UTC)(link)With sufficient upper body strength, a sword--as crude as it is--can be a more controlled weapon. And that's the point. Light sabers are ridiculous--ridiculed in universe in fact--and insanely difficult to master, but a more elegant weapon. The weapon of a highly skilled knight, not a common foot soldier.
Re: Found a Yank!
Range is really all that matters when you can kill someone from 100 yards away, and they have to get within 1 yard.
Light sabres work in-universe because the Jedi have space magic (and in the Walking Dead where noise draws more zombies and general trauma doesn't stop zombies), but otherwise wielding a sword when you could use a gun is utterly daft. You English supposedly learned the insurmountable superiority of ranged weaponry at Agincourt, but I suppose history books and reading aren't for everyone, tut tut.
