I don't mind it if it's being applied in a meta way, as a criticism of the source material. Especially if it's about those very specific kinds of trauma male characters seem to encounter so often.

However, using it as a criticism of the character as a person, rather than the character as a character, is a misapplication.

...Actually "man pain" is going the way of "Mary Sue" and will be virtually meaningless in the next year or two, so go ahead and advocate finding a less easily misapplied term.

+1 exactly this. As a narrative device, it is irritating, but that doesn't mean it's not a valid emotion in-universe (and IMO should be treated as such in fic, etc).
