Or maybe someone just sincerely likes to play a video game to wind down and relax and competitive gaming is ... just about the opposite of that? And... yeah, most people are not good enough at games to keep up with the top players in competitive games, but I'm pretty sure not even a third of them will feel as judged as you wanted them to feel with this secret (assuming it's not a trolly secret.).

Yeah, one time a friend's fic got this really angry review... for a fic she wrote in college.

I mean, I realize sometimes it might be time!fail, and they don't realize the fic was written years ago... but if they do, I don't get the point either.

I could've written this secret!

I was even doing this before I discovered cosplay was a thing at all, so it wasn't an issue of tackiness for me, just the little in-joke thing.

I don't do it as much anymore for various reasons, but I still rememember that weird line between frustration and pleasure as I traipsed around dozens of stores looking for that one, just right item... good times.

It depends on how they do it?

If the fic includes a lot of insults to gay people and they wrote it specifically because they're homophobic I'd be offended.

If they just want to write a certain ship and they make it work with the character's canon sexuality and they're not doing it to be offensive, that's great.
