I hardly think this is a secret that anyone on this community is going to disagree with, with the exception of our usual trolls (who actually agree with you, too).

Angst about any character that seems to include a tragic backstory that only seems to be used to give them angst points is certainly lazy writing. And yeah, it is way overdone (in a badly written way) with male action heroes, though I firmly maintain it happens to female characters as well. It's not that characters shouldn't have tragic backstories, but it's easy to come across as cheap.
