Re: Fanartists, at least, are attention whores when they do this IMO
(Anonymous) 2014-12-05 12:44 pm (UTC)(link)even putting aside commissions for fanart, people have gotten jobs with portfolios full of fanart, actual original work jobs. your saying "you can't build a career off fanart!" is naive and again, shows how very little you know about how the art industry works. do you think a concept artist's portfolio is not going to be full of Star Wars fanart? a comic book artist's portfolio not going to be filled with sketches of Batman? an animator's portfolio not filled with character designs of their take on Adventure Time? people get paying work with portfolios full of "someone else's intellectual property," but it's the talent that carries them.
everyone in this industry is piggybacking off of each other and you're so off the mark it's just astounding. take your moral outrage elsewhere because it's severely misplaced. a walkthrough an animator's office might send you into convulsions.
