(Anonymous) 2014-12-06 12:17 am (UTC)(link)But yeah, I do feel legitimate disgust with people who are in science because they want to be famous and have everyone admire them for how smart they are. I don't care who you are -- your research is all that matters.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-06 01:20 am (UTC)(link)I didn't say I'd be okay with other people getting my grant money because I kind of need that to feed myself. But if I could get a position with secure funding, I have to be honest and say that I wouldn't care if my name was attached to my research as long as I could keep doing it. Not going to lie about that.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-07 01:37 am (UTC)(link)I'd say it's normal and human to want recognition for your work, and selfless beyond sanity to be willing to toil for decades, in some cases, yet not mind if someone else receives the credit for your accomplishment. If you're so high-minded that you truly don't care, fine for you, but don't decide that people who feel differently are all narcissists.
