Yeah, it's like this nonny lives under a rock or in a world where nobody does "work for hire". I mean, how do you get a work for hire job without having some of the relevant copyrighted material in your very own portfolio? You usually wouldn't. A prospective employer would want to see how an artist handles the material in question so that they can judge the prospective employee's skill in hanlding said material.

Nonny also seems to live in a world where funds for research fall from the sky, and nobody ever has to compete for grant money or appointments.

Yeah, EXCEPT all of that is ORIGINAL research. You don't get ANY funding for using someone else's work. Think about that for a second.

You could by using someone else's work and passing it off as your own. Which nonny is apparently ok with since she claims she is only doing scientific research for the Joy of Discovery and the Greater Good.

Except I never said I was passing it off as my own. I said that I couldn't find a source so I posted it regardless hoping that if someone knew or the original artist saw it, they would let me know so I could edit it in since reverse google image search had already failed me.

But yeah, I do feel legitimate disgust with people who are in science because they want to be famous and have everyone admire them for how smart they are. I don't care who you are -- your research is all that matters.

I think we're talking past each other here. I was referring to your claim that you're too noble to care about being recognized for your scientific research, which apparently means it's okay by you if someone else takes credit for your research and the resulting grants and appointments fall into their lap rather than to you, the person who has earned them.

Did I say I was noble? No -- because I think that's called being a normal person. That normal people should be out to do something, not because it will get them recognition, but because it will help others. I think you have to be pretty egocentric/narcissistic to go into science being primarily concerned with making a name for yourself and having everyone bow and scrape when you enter a room. There are definitely scientists -- brilliant scientists, in fairness -- who are like that. But they definitely ARE egocentric and narcissistic too on top of it.

I didn't say I'd be okay with other people getting my grant money because I kind of need that to feed myself. But if I could get a position with secure funding, I have to be honest and say that I wouldn't care if my name was attached to my research as long as I could keep doing it. Not going to lie about that.

Because looking for recognition for your hard work and time and creativity totally equals expecting everyone to bow and scrape when you enter a room. How disingenuous is it humanly possible to be?

I'd say it's normal and human to want recognition for your work, and selfless beyond sanity to be willing to toil for decades, in some cases, yet not mind if someone else receives the credit for your accomplishment. If you're so high-minded that you truly don't care, fine for you, but don't decide that people who feel differently are all narcissists.
