Ehh, what I don't like seeing are fanartists who sell the same prints of characters at conventions over and over again. Commissions are kind of neat because they are unique pieces of art done at the request of someone, so they are in many ways personalized. It's kind of like getting a picture from a street artist.

That's the main difference for me any way. Fanartists don't make a ton of money off of stuff they sell any way, even if it is copyrighted, but I don't like the mass produced fanart which people sell for stupidly high prices. Especially if it's something small that I could have made myself in 30 minutes.

But yes, I was speaking from the perspective of someone from tumblr, because of the ease of microblogging. This doesn't happen for me on DA, since galleries ask me for permission first and I can always request that my stuff not be posted if I don't like what they are doing. (i.e. making a youtube video including my art so that they can profit from the ads and views)

In other words, selling random prints is much more commercial and should be curbed because it is like trying to sell merchandise which is starting to stray more into the sales of official merchandise. It's different from fulfilling a request for someone who likes the way you draw. Do you see what I am getting at?

Agreed. I think the distinction of 'something you can do yourself in 10 minutes' you were talking about is important. Crochet plushies are ok because each plushie takes time and work.
