Up until you find out the truth and it was a subversion all along where nothing particularly bad happened to her. Fenris counts but his sister doesn't

da

Well Fenris would pretty much fit he manpain trope - angsty past that allows him to get away with being a dick to everyone, and constantly talking about his angsty past. And sure, nothing "bad" happened to his sister... until he, you know, ripped her heart out. And then he still gets to angst about it.

Now, I like Fenris, but he fits the trope. And one of the reasons why I think tropes can be stupid. Fenris is a perfectly fine and developed character, and it's not inherently bad to have an angsty past if the character is handled realistically, and the trauma/death of a loved one/etc isn't played out in a dramatic, over the top fashion if it only serves to affect the character in question.

I just said Fenris counts and his sister doesn't, then you're arguing with me that Fenris counts, as though I said he didn't. What?

His sister's comment about Fenris being carved with lyrium and having his memories erased being the "better part of the bargain" in comparison to what happened to her and her mother suggests to me that his sister went through Some Shit.
