That picture will haunt my dreams. Yikes. Look, straight people get 98% of the characters, why even bother to turn gay characters straight in fanfic? If the character is bisexual, then portraying them in a male/female relationship is not erasing anything. In fact, screaming about said male/female relationship is in itself bi-erasure. Isolated fanfic pairings hurt nothing in the long run, but larger patterns do. Check your own motivations, your own privilege, the thoughtfulness of your portrayal, and the possible impact on peoples' feelings before posting things in public.

Well, because they're into that - or they're into that character being with a certain other character.

I always see people make arguments like this like fanfic is political - and yes, to some people it is, but for the vast majority it's wish fulfillment.

If "possible impact on people's feelings" is an argument, you couldn't write half of the kinks common in fandom.

DA

That might be true, but frankly if you simply have to ship the one sole gay character in a show in a straight couple, then I for one will be questioning your motivations for doing so.
