Most of the time it's not a big deal to me but I can see how it could be offensive. There isn't that much representative of gay people in media and if there is then they often are just a wacky side kick or as some sort of negative stereotype. But when someone who is a main player, awesome and everyone looks up to like Dumbledore and make him straight it's like taking away a positive role model. And it becomes offensive when the writer uses some tired old trope like the gay character meets the right person and it somehow "fixes" them and that pisses people off.
