Except you're once again making the assumption that everybody who ships and writes fic just browses through all the characters that exist and picks and chooses them like ice cream flavors, one (or two together) being more or less as good as another. It doesn't WORK like that for everyone.

If one particular character (or pairing) grabs my attention, that's it, man--game over. All others need not apply. I am stuck with that one character or OTP, probably for the next several years. That's just how my brain is wired (the same tendency also manifests itself in different ways in non-fandom spaces.)

As it happens, I've never latched onto any gay characters that way, so I haven't had occasion to write any as straight. But fuck yes I would, if it was that or not do any fun fannish things at all.
