Stuff friends do that annoys you...

(Anonymous) 2014-12-05 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
... but not (yet) enough to make a big scene about it. There are a lot of small things that can grate on our nerves, but when good friends do it, we grit our teeth and ignore it up to a certain point - be it because bringing it up might not be worth the drama or because you are aware of your own faults that your friends also put up with without saying anything.

But it's still annoying. So rant here (also: When does a harmless but annoying thing become too much to just silently endure?)

I organised several big group presents for some friends (the one where one buys the present and the people who participate give you their part of the money). Only it's been over a month and except for one friend, I have received no money from any of them.

I don't see them very often, so I said they could also send the money via money transfer, but there has been nothing, even though some of them said they'd rather do it that way. This weekend, two of the presents will be handed over and the people who will be there will probably give me the money then, but I still think it kind of sucks that I'm the one paying over a 100 $ up front even though I'm the poorest person in that group and none of them finds the time to give me their share of the money before handing over the presents.

Something to consider... did everyone enthusiastically agree to the idea of a group present, or is there a possibility they were kinda pressured into it? Because I could see feeling resentful about being dragged into this and possibly spending more than money than I was planning to, just because I didn't want to be the party pooper.

Solution's easy: stop organizing group presents.

Yes they did. Everyone was in agreement. We've done things like this in that group several times with the more or less same amount of money. I asked everyone several times if they wanted to participate and about the amount they'd be willing to spend. They all agreed. If they still are unable to disagree after the fifth time of asking "is that really alright for you please say if it's not", I can't help them, they're all adults.

Usually, the person who knows the person who gets the present best or has the best idea gets the present. That's not always me. It's also other people from that group. I just really hate reminding people they still owe me money.

This is not just friends, but people in general. I hate it when people say "I'll call you back" or "I'll get back on that" and then don't. Seriously, if you don't want to do something, fine. I don't even need a reason most of the time. But don't leave me hanging with will-they-won't-they, especially when I have other things I could do on the day we "might" be meeting up.

I had a friend who not only left me hanging, but when I called to confirm plans/figure out what was going on, sounded annoyed with me. I later called her out on it and she was all "oh, I was having a bad day."

Uh, yeah, whatever. I outgrew that in high school. The second week of my Freshman year of high school.

I'm baffled that adults do it. Hell, I've had people old enough to be my dad do it.

I haaaaaaaaaaate that. Especially when it's something they volunteered to do. If they hadn't volunteered, I would've been like, no biggie. But when you say you're going to do something and then give me the run around, it really infuriates me, especially if I've rearranged my schedule or they're leaving me in the lurch. I've had friends do this, and at least from my perspective, I never feel as friendly toward them ever again.

I have a friend who constantly yells when she talks. I'm not sure if she has speech issues, hearing problems or if she's just really enthused . I'm getting used to it but sometimes it's all I can do not to cover my ears and duck.

Why not? If you're friends, this isn't such a sensitive subject that you need to walk on eggshells, is it?

Look at it on the bright side, though.

They're not annoying ;)
