Nope. I don't ship OT3 to "solve" love triangles but because each of the three characters involved does give off vibes with the other two and they work as a whole.

Exactly.

This should be how it is with any ship really. Whether it's an OT3 or not.

This. In a majority of the fandoms I've written for, I've shipped two characters as completely monogamous, the only people in the world for each other, etc., even though I am not personally monogamous, because it makes sense for the characters, the world, and their dynamic. In at least one, though, three characters had chemistry. In others, I actually can't imagine the characters in question being monogamous, so I might ship two but assume that they occasionally have sex with other people.

It is entirely dependent on personalities and cultural contexts.

Same here.

Sometimes my OT3 might be a canon triangle (as in A and B are in love, C loves B and wants them and is jealous (whether B returns it but is devoted to A is optional)), but it is not something that works for every canon triangle. I have to like all the combinations of the threesome (like A/B, B/C, C/A) to declare it an OT3.

OT3 for me a very Personal Preference thing, just like the rest of shipping. I don't expect people to share my OT3s.
