Moffat's awful, and growing steadily worse for that matter, but his haters are tiresome. The way 12 speaks to Clara is indefensible, but it also speaks for itself, it's unnecessary to complain about it every 9 seconds. And maybe if they all stopped watching to enable their complaining, the ratings would drop enough to get the jerk fired.

How about the way Clara speaks to 12? She's smug and totally obnoxious. "Do as you're told?" Can you imagine if it was him saying that to her, the haters would be up in arms!

Well first of all he has said it, or something very similar, and second of all both characters are written by the same people so in this context your your point is what exactly?

The Doctor: Why are you still here?
Clara: Because I am not going to leave you in danger.
The Doctor: Then you will never travel with me again because that is the deal! TARDIS! NOW! Do as you are told!

It would depend on how he said it but potentially the context would be entirely different so obviously people would react differently. He does say some things like that to her and others though, especially nearer the start and when he's being weird about Danny, because the arc of the season is the audience, Clara and him finding out if he's actually still a good person or not. Just because he does something means the show is approving of it, any more than RTD definitely thinks humans are stupid apes. (He only thinks that about Who fans. *cough*) The people the OP is talking about will paint anything from any episode under Moffat's run as evil and disregard any contextual info but the context is Clara and 12's relationship is based on them sniping at each other but with love underneath. It's about trust and things get bad when the trust breaks down in the middle of the series. It's weird because they set it out pretty clearly multiple times (like Danny not liking 12 but respecting that he's Clara's friend even if he doesn't get it himself) but it's pretty hard to have a proper conversation about what's actually on the screen these days, negative or positive.

I think you'll find actually that he was the first to say 'do as you're told'
