+1 for use of fetid. Great word

I was in Who!fandom in the 80s. Even at its worst it wasn't as toxic and entitled as it is now. Congrats Anti!Moffs, you've made the crusade against JNT look sane by comparison. *slow clap*

(Anonymous) 2014-12-07 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
*sigh* I'm totally anti-moffat, I hate him with a passion, his writing, everything... so I left Dr Who fandom and don't get involved. Yes it sucks for me, but I don't understand why people spend their lives feeding their hate boners with this shit? People don't have better things to do than stew? And making everyone else miserable in the process. FFS.

So yeah, one sane anti-moffat fan here throwing in their +1.

I always get the feeling that the anti-Moffs are going to be devastated to see Moffat go when he finally does go, because omg who would they bash and feel outraged by without him!? He completes them, like Batman completes the Joker. It's not detrimental to their fandom. It IS their fandom. Their fandom is not Doctor Who, their fandom is Bashing Moffat's Doctor Who.

Same here. I watched the first four episodes then about three more of the omg best of the run episodes. They all ranged from uninteresting to annoying, so I just stopped watching. If a new season of a show goes for 3-6 episodes and I'm not enjoying it, I just stop. There's too much other media out there to waste time on something I'm not enjoying. And in Who specifically, there's years and years of Classic to watch instead.

Do I wish Moffat would leave in hopes I'd get more episodes that I'd enjoy, but I've happily bailed on too many shows to get mad about this one.

I'm not even in Who fandom and I agree.
I'm finally getting around to watching new!Who and halfway through Smith's last season, I am wondering when this OMG degredation due to the evil Moffat is supposed to show up. Episodes seem up and down, like Who has always been to me.

(I might secretly feel cheated that I have nothing to rage about, tbh)

I mostly dislike Moffat Who, but IA with this secret 100%.

Well, no, 99%. IMO there are a few Classic Who fans (or rather, Robert Holmes-era fans) who outstrip even the Moffat-Haters with their mind-boggling distaste for fun.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-06 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Moffat's awful, and growing steadily worse for that matter, but his haters are tiresome. The way 12 speaks to Clara is indefensible, but it also speaks for itself, it's unnecessary to complain about it every 9 seconds. And maybe if they all stopped watching to enable their complaining, the ratings would drop enough to get the jerk fired.

LOL@U

(Anonymous) 2014-12-06 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
How about the way Clara speaks to 12? She's smug and totally obnoxious. "Do as you're told?" Can you imagine if it was him saying that to her, the haters would be up in arms!

(Anonymous) 2014-12-06 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Well first of all he has said it, or something very similar, and second of all both characters are written by the same people so in this context your your point is what exactly?

Can you imagine if it was him saying that to her

The Doctor: Why are you still here?
Clara: Because I am not going to leave you in danger.
The Doctor: Then you will never travel with me again because that is the deal! TARDIS! NOW! Do as you are told!

ITA.

He's not perfect, but show me a writer who is. At this point I'm honestly not pro or anti. It's the vehemence of the anti-Moffat people that make it so ridiculous.

It's gotten to the point that when I read meta/reviews/articles about Sherlock or DW I quickly scan the entire text to see how many times his name pops up. If it's more than the situation warrants I assume it's because the author is anti-Moffat and the whole thing will be biased.

Seriously, entire pieces blasting Moffat when the ep had Gatiss' name on it. Or with DW, I've heard people say they hate Moffat's writing and it's such a shame because Eleven's their favorite Doctor. Do these people not realize he writes that too?

(Anonymous) 2014-12-06 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I remember a comment on this community accusing Moffat of homophobia and evil queerbaiting... and the episode was written by Gatiss.

You can like the way a character is written, but not the stories he's in. Fifth Doctor is my favourite, but I can't stand most of his episodes, and hate some of his companions. Same with Eleven. I like his personality but there's so few episodes I would ever bother to rewatch, and Amy and Rory did nothing for me.

You're not wrong, OP. I find the hate in that tag really alarming. It's pathetic.

[personal profile] were_lemur 2014-12-08 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
But the #Moffat Hate tag exists so that you can Tumblr Savior it if you don't want to see it.

The name actually came from a post from a Moffat fan, asking people to use that specific tag so that they could add it to the list of tags that they DIDN'T see.

Then, of course, came the people capslocking about how horrible Moffat's "haters" were, and see how much we all hate him, we even admit it in the very name of the tag.

(After that I started tagging my criticism #Moffat Crit instead. But I announced it, so that any of my followers could add that to their Tumblr Savior lists before I started using it, and I'm still careful about using that tag so that any of my followers who have it blocked won't see it.)

This is literally a "don't like, don't read" situation. If criticism of Steven Moffat bothers you, blocking the tags it appears in will filter a lot of it out of your feed.

It's almost impossible to talk about Who at the moment unless you're in the Classic fandom. New Who fandom is simply not about what actually happens on the screen any more. Absolutely everything is taken out of context to either condemn Moffat or (less often) slag off anti-Moffat fans and it's just so bloody boring. The last season has been really interesting and it's a shame people prefer to talk about the fantasy alternate reality in their own heads instead. Tbh I think this was starting with Ten where everything he did was lauded as being amazing and he was hailed as the best Doctor ever but it's got really out of hand over the last couple of years. Of course Moffat deserves criticsm for some sexist things he's said irl, and the writing for Matt's last series was awful but his name has become a way to get pretend social jusice points on Tumblr, along with pretending you care about trans people or slagging off Marvel when they fawned over Guardians of the Galaxy five minutes ago.

Not that I am frustrated about this or anything. We need another bloody haitus.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-06 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Last season was up and down, and had some really good ideas which were poorly executed and some really silly ideas which turned out to be sublimely portrayed, it had something that ticked all my nostalgia buttons making it feel like a serenade to my childhood and it had something which made it feel like it was raping my childhood, but I think we'll all remember it as the season where a kaiju sized T-Rex puked up the TARDIS>

It did fail to contain Peter Kay in a speedo, so there is that for it.

My favourite new term is "Meh-fet." Like, I actually don't have strong feelings about Moffat one way or the other. I think he's very flawed as a writer but there are some things he does very well. It is fun to discuss these things but certainly no cause for dramatics. C'est tout. I often wonder if other people are watching the same show as me.

This...actually describes me pretty well, though I'd say I'm conflicted rather than meh. I have semi-strong feelings on both sides? And it depends on the episode?
