Haha that's understandable.

I remember reading somewhere that the meaning of soulmate is someone who enters each others life, shakes up each others world and both bring out the best of each other (sometimes before parting ways). It doesn't necesarily mean a lover or just one person, though. That meaning has stuck with me since then.

I like ideas of soulmates where it isn't just lovers, where your soulmate could be a friend or a relative or even a business partner.

I like this idea a lot. Not necessarily lovers, not necessarily life-long relationships, and not necessarily just one person. Those fix all the biggest issues I have with most soulmate tropes.

I've always kind of believed in the concept of soulmates, and certainly enjoy reading about/seeing them in my favorite media. (As if my Sailor Moon-related icon didn't make that obvious enough!) But after something I experienced over the summer where I met someone who rather shook up my world (and I seemed to make an impact on them too--all while I've already been in a long-term relationship with someone else who still means a lot to me), the idea of there being more than one person (and maybe not always lovers either) is what I'm coming to believe instead, and I think that's the best way of looking at it too, both in terms of media, and in terms of real life.

That's a nice way of thinking about it, and one I'd prefer to use as well.
