I lived far away from my family for about twenty years, and set up my own traditions of making some really yummy appetizers and buying very expensive ice cream or otherwise cool desserts for myself, and acquiring all the cool movies from the library or rental place to watch.

And on those times when I was invited to a friend's house (rarely), I'd go, and have a wonderful time, but I was just as happy watching old TV series and spoiling my dogs with whatever it was I'd cooked for myself.
