I have nothing against lurking (It's a perfectly valid way of enjoying fandom), but for me it did eventually get lonely. There are plenty of things that can go wrong with posting un-anon in a fandom (even if you aren't a BNF), but lots of people do manage without major problems. You can never know if someone is going to react negatively to something you said, so I try not to worry about it.

It's up to you if the risk is worth it or not, but I can see both sides.
