Teachers don't have lethal weapons, or are legally allowed to use them against me and mine at their discretion. The consequences for giving a teacher the benefit of the doubt and they turn out to be incompetent, abusive, sleazy bullies tend to be a lot less dangerous than doing the same with an armed individual who is very, very difficult to hold accountable for harming somebody.

I've had good and bad interactions with police, they're not a monolith. But they also don't wear signs to distinguish themselves, either.

Aren't you a middleclass white woman. The police are significantly more likely to save you then they ever are to harm you in anyway.

All you're doing is assisting people who prey on individuals like you.

What is even this comment? I mean first of all, she's not white, and I would think you'd have been here long enough to know that. Second of all even if she was, why on earth would you get on someone for criticizing the police for something that you tacitly acknowledge happens? Are you just in one of your moods where you try really hard to be a dick to people?

Honestly couldn't recall, thought she was (well rather thought she wasn't black, to be specific).

But I'm not even tacitly admitting it exists, merely that it's an especially rich and paranoid view from specific demographics.

And I'm annoyed because I see cowards taking her approach everyday. When you have a fourteen year old girl shot on a packed street, and no witnesses, it's because of people behaving just like Manifest. When there's no real risk to her outside the paranoia she whips up in her head anyway.

The only person prosecuted in the Eric Garner case was the guy who taped the incident

Which I'm sure that the NYPD fitted him up for, because it's not like people can be just that dumb, and that the majority of people who spend their times hanging out on streets recording cops on their phones may be generally not pure clean characters.

Though honestly I'm supised that's blown up as much as it has. It seems like that guy could write up reasonable force all day long. It was almost certainly the positional asphyxia (along with being morbidly obese, and with a dodgy heart) that killed him.

It's blown up because the cop used a hold that was banned over 20 years ago and because no, fuck you, it was NOT reasonable force for what was going on, and I'm completely disgusted that you're taking this line. I thought you were a dick before, but now I'm pretty well convinced that you're an apologist piece of shit, and you'd probably be really cool with a police state just because "oh gosh I'm in the system and I've seen things guiiiisseeee."

"Behaving just like Manifest"? I would love to know which part of my comment suggests to you I would witness something like that and not cooperate with the cops. Will I stand out in the middle of the street loudly telling them that so-and-so from the local gang did it, because surely the police will protect me from the consequences? Fuck no. But I will do everything in my power to both cooperate and not be an idiot.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but you don't live in the U.S., do you? Because we have problems with our police officers that people in less gun-crazy nations do not.

Going by her icon, I doubt she's white (yes, I know the icon probably isn't HER, but how many white women use a black woman as their icon?).

I do. My other main icons are a white man and a black man.

I'm white and I had some icons that were black women, but they were all fandom-related and I don't think any of them were ever my primary icon, so that probably doesn't count.

Pretty sure she's not white, but how is she even assisting people who "prey" on her either way? I generally stay away from cops, too. Doesn't mean I hinder them in doing their job.

Hahaha, I'm the farthest from middle class and white as you can get, which contributes to my position. But in any case, I specifically said I was not against police, and in fact rely on them when I have to, and I don't engage in illegal activity, which includes actively obstructing justice. I do wonder how some people interpret not regarding strangers with guns as one's bestest best friends as interfering with their work and siding with criminals.
