Tomatoes. No really. They make me want to gag. I've eaten bugs, and I'm fine with that. But tomatoes? *shudder*.

AYRT

For me, it's a tin of champignon mushrooms.

To set the scene, I went to a friend's birthday party. It was themed around the TV show "The Amazing Race", and one of the 'tests' we had to go through was to eat a tin of cold mushrooms. Lucky me, I got picked.

They were cold and slimy and rubbery and tasted like dog food. One of the most awful experiences. When we got back to their place I hid in their bathroom and cried. (I was 8 and had pretty bad social anxiety.)

Mushrooms are the work of the devil.

I actually like the squishiness of mushrooms, but I can understand how you'd be disgusted by it.

With the tomatoes thing is, people want to convince you because it's healthy and they like them. My mother tried. My school tried. People said I should try biologically grown ones. That I should try the cherry tomatoes. Or the dried ones.

I tried it all, and all it does is make me want to wash out my mouth with bleach.

Northern Europe has sorry excuses for tomatoes. So mealy and nasty. Take it from someone of Mexican descent, we know tomatoes. I did some traveling and the only tolerable tomatoes were in Italy. Worst were in France, second worst in Poland.

Mind you, there are still bad tomatoes here in the US (especially in the Northeast, shudder), especially when they try to import them out of season from Chile and stuff.

I absolutely believe there are differences. I just think I might simply hate them all.

I have the same with strawberries. I used to pick wild strawberries on holiday as a child. My great-aunt also grew regular ones in her garden. The taste difference between those and the ones in supermarkets is baffling.

Are you me? I saw the subject line and I was just like "tomatoes."

And then people are like "well what don't you like about them?" and I'm just like "everything?".

Yeah, same. I don't even like cutting them because i hate getting the smell on my hands.
