Re: Do you trust your police?

I try and remember the ones you hear about are ones you hear about for a reason. I imagine most police officers are just doing their (very dangerous) jobs. However, I also think there's a lot of people who become cops because they're assholes.

Thank you. Preemptive caveat: As a fifteen year law enforcement profession, I am biased. Preemptive acknowledgment: in the case of police, power imbalance can and has been deadly and that is and will always be tragic.

That said: just like every other profession, there are good guys and bad guys. There are cops who use their power for good, and cops who choose to use their power for ill gotten gains, or just plain evil. And there are cops who do the minimum they can to pick up their paycheck and not get dead.

As for the rest (the perception that nothing is being done on your case, that cops are only out to write tickets or abuse their power), just like a lot of professions, you can't always understand what's going on with your situation unless you're on the inside. Department resources are usually already stretched to the breaking point. Priorities have to be established.
