Tags are for ORGANIZATION. I want my tumblr to be fucking organized so I can find my own shit later.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-08 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
If it's for your own personal organization then you can call the tag whatever you like. You can call it "this_thing_fucking_sucks" and still be able to find it.

That's absolutely no excuse for filling tags with things you know the majority of those searching it will find judgemental, condescending and hateful.

You are the most ridiculous person I've spoken to here.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-08 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
I agree with them. Tagging hate is selfish and nasty. How is it you don't get that? Why are your personal needs more important than anyone else's?

(Anonymous) 2014-12-08 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
What makes your want to only read a certain type content more important than my need to be searchable if I want to be read at all?

(Anonymous) 2014-12-08 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
AYRT

Well, since you're an expert on being ridiculous I'll take that as a compliment!

(Anonymous) 2014-12-08 08:43 am (UTC)(link)
See, shit like this is why I'm no longer active in fandom. Time was, grasshopper, when we could critique something without it automatically being classed as "HATE! OMG!THEYHATEMYFAVORITETHING! WHY WHY WHY YOU MAKE ME LOOK AT DIS!!!?!!!1!!!!"

Fandom is ill unto death. And Tumblr-ite attitudes are the plague.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-08 11:58 am (UTC)(link)
See, there's a difference between critique and just "I hate this fucking character/pairing, fuck -character/pairing- they are the worst thing about -blank-, how can anyone like them/it, I think less of people who like this, etc."

That shit is just rude.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-08 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, there is a difference.

And there are a fuck of a lot of people on Tumblr who refuse to recognize the difference. Say anything other than "This is perfect!" and they want your blood. And it's hard to avoid them due to the way Tumblr works.

I've seen people who are fans of Loki because he is complicated and morally gray and does evil shit get accused of "posting hate in the tags" by fans of woobie!Loki.

Which is both sad and kind of amusing, and shows how low the threshold for what is considered "hate" can be for some people.

While Tumblr does tend to skew fairly young, which does lead to a certain tendency to lack of perspective, I'm starting to think that Tumblr's tagging system is a big part of what makes it so prone to drama. It makes it really easy to find stuff, but it also makes it really easy to find stuff that's really going to piss you off.

+1000

(Anonymous) 2014-12-08 07:28 am (UTC)(link)
I just put 5 slashes and then tag with the relevant character/fandom tags... Not hard.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-08 12:02 pm (UTC)(link)
But you don't know all these tricks when you just start on tumblr, like adding slashes to not show up on tags, and the anon above said it was their very first week of fandom.

I'm also of the opinion that tagging a dissenting opinion is fair enough. Is tumblr really so defensive that it has to be one big hive mind?

(Anonymous) 2014-12-08 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
You do realize only the first five tags are tracked, right? You could just stick the ship name in the sixth spot and then it's nicely organized on your tumblr without garnering reactions from the fans who might step in to argue.

I think shippers tend to overreact and flaming is never okay, but I also think it's unfair for someone to express an opinion and then act disgruntled when the fans step in to voice their contrary opinions. Gotta expect it if you're wading into their territory.
