I've lived alone for years as well. Even though my brother moved back in with me this year, we still don't have a family dinner. It's always nice finding someone else that usually does a fandom thing (I like to go see a movie and feed the homeless at my job) as well. No one else seems to know how to take it that I don't have a large family gathering to attend and won't have one in the future, since I don't plan to reproduce.
