Sure a lot of you know this already but when they took the Romanovs to be executed, they were dressed to the nines -- the women had tons of huge precious gemstones sewn into their clothes.

When the soldiers opened fire, then, some of the bullets freaking bounced off them because they were hitting the stones -- which scared the piss out of the soldiers.

What I heard was they had hidden family jewels in their corsets.

Not quite; they weren't dressed to the nines in the sense of them wearing fancy clothing. It's that their underwear (and of course back then they wore a lot more) was lined with their personal jewels, which had been sewn in months before. Alexei also had a gem-lined shirt.

And those gems actually stood up to not only bullets but bayonets too.
