Well except that Rumple planned everything, knowing what would happen and who would die, solely to get back to his son and yet keep his powers. Not what his father or the earlier dark one did at all.

Not saying that absolves Regina because she's still a horrible person. But, IMHO, Rumple is by far the worst person on the show who has caused the most damage to the most people.

Who do you think killed more people, Rumple or Regina?

(Anonymous) 2014-12-09 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
Well, since Rumple knew what Regina was going to do and trained her and set her up to be what she became, I think he's partially responsible for her murders. And Cora's. And Zelena's. So, yes, I'd say he's got more blood on his hands, though Regina certainly has her fair share.

Oh for fuck's sake.

Regina's reached the point where she's a grown woman who knows what she's doing.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-09 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Did I say Regina wasn't at fault? She was. She murdered and hurt all those people. That doesn't mean Rumple can't be a cause as well. There isn't a finite amount of blame. That isn't the way it works. It is like, in war the commanders are to blame but the soldiers are also to blame for their actions even if they were told to. Regina is totally to blame. She made her choices. But Rumple set things up and knew they were going to happen and intended for them to happen as the only way to get his son back. So he bears some responsibility.

Sorry, he didn't force her to rip her own father's heart out. Her stupid misplaced revenge-fantasy against a fucking 10-year-old did.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-09 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Didn't say he forced her.

Honestly, you seem to be saying that I'm taking away responsibility from Regina, which I'm not. She's totally responsible for her actions. That doesn't mean that someone else can't have blood on their hands as well. There isn't a finite amount of blame.

At least Rumple didn't hold a person hostage for thirty years and rape them?

(Anonymous) 2014-12-09 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
He raped Regina's soul

(Anonymous) 2014-12-09 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Yes I'm sure actual rape victims would like the comparison.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-09 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
Just like they'd like the idea of the wicked queen being a rapist because she stole someone's heart?

(Anonymous) 2014-12-09 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
She's not a rapist because she took his heart. She's a rapist because she spent thirty years using mind control (which occasionally involved the stolen heart) to force a man to have sex with her against his will.

Basically she slipped him a roofie every night for three decades. Just because it wasn't violent doesn't mean it wasn't rape.

This. I like Regina as a character, and I personally believe in redemption and think she's on the path (even if she isn't quite as far along as the showrunners think), but it was rape. He did not willingly consent. She took away his ability to consent.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-09 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
How is this even a little bit debatable?

Why does it keep having to be explained?

I agree. But then I've never understood the need to excuse bad actions of characters you like. Although it is slightly refreshing to see it for a female character for once rather than another white male. But it is still creepy and pointless.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-09 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
No. And that was bad. But I still say that Rumple knew what Regina would become and set her up to become that and bears his share of responsibility for her actions. And when you add up all the people he was willing to let die/be tortured/suffer just to get his son back, that makes him worse. She's horrible, he's just worse.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-09 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
da

He's not worse, just opportunistic. All Regina had to do was say to herself, "Snow was a child, my mother killed Daniel" and she could have had some peace.
