It's a Wonderful Life. I get the point. I do. I just don't like the execution. Although to be fair, I partly blame all the spinoffs, because they tend to be different from the original movie.

I agree. Although, I don't tend to like anything that sappy.

NAYRT

The thing about It's A Wonderful Life is that it's a fucking brutally cynical, dark movie up until the ending, which is literally a completely bullshit magical resolution. It's an odd thing to become a holiday classic in some ways.

(the same is basically true of Mr Smith Goes To Washington, btw)

The movie with angels and God has a magical, happy ending? WHATTTTTT?

AYRT - Exactly, it's so brutally cynical that it's very hard to get to the happy ending.

Which is why I love both of them.

It's A Wonderful Life is a fine movie... the first time you see it.

The problem with it isn't the movie's fault as much as the fact that Hollywood latched onto it and paraded it around and chucked the theme into every fucking Christmas-related piece of shit bilge it could think of and then still had the audacity to shove the original in our faces about five times every Christmas season.

sappy bullshit and the idea that if a woman isn't married it's some sort of fucking fate worse than death. That movie makes me puke.
