And yet more evidence for why I should stick to writing cis white guys.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-11 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
I write cis white guys because they're what I'm attracted to, but the foaming ingratitude of any given minority when you take the time to write them certainly hasn't given me a reason to stop.

wow.

first off, fuck you for expecting gratitude from anybody in response to what you write. if that's one of your main motivators, then i think you ought to find a different hobby.

second, some people are always going to be critical of what you write regardless of the content. if your immediate response to it is "wow, never doing that again" then you are utterly spineless and, again, writing might just not be for you.

third, i can't… i mean, jesus, "taking the time to write them"?? are you kidding me with this bullshit? including a minority character in your stories isn't akin to offering some little dog a bone. phrasing it like that makes you look like a jackass, because trust me, no one with any fucking dignity wants to read something where you include a character like that just for points. please, go somewhere else to be a petty little shit.

Troll or so many things wrong with you that you're not even worth the label.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-11 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
I think OP means you should stop writing canon characters as trans. Also that, when you write characters who are trans, you should do your research and make sure they're a lot more than just "THE" TRANSGENDER.

But I know how you feel. I often worry about writing characters of color in my original fiction and I'm black! I don't want to deal with SJWs telling me I'm terrible because my non-white characters aren't perfect. But all they or anyone else can do is complain. I don't have to listen to them.

"I think OP means you should stop writing canon characters as trans. Also that, when you write characters who are trans, you should do your research and make sure they're a lot more than just "THE" TRANSGENDER."

It's amazing how almost EVERYONE else in this thread is missing this. Like geez guys come on.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-11 08:09 am (UTC)(link)
Well, OP's foaming rage makes it hard to concentrate on what they're actually trying to say. You just want to duck and hide instead of listening.

Tone argument. It's a pretty good argument.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-11 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. In my head, this secret has a tone that sounds like, "Waaaah!! It's not fair!!!! Waaaaahh!! Stop writing things I don't like!!!!! Waaah! I'll kick my heels on the floor until you stop!! Waaaaah!"

(Anonymous) 2014-12-11 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
what they said was "every cis person who writes a character as trans in their fanfic"

so i'm pretty much forced to assume that they mean, you know, writing a character as trans is bad

similarly, given their points about how no cis person can ever really know what it's like to be a trans person, i have to conclude that they meant, you know, what they said

(Anonymous) 2014-12-11 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
I've always heard that it was wrong to talk over trans people, but apparently it's fine and dandy to do that when the literal interpretation of what they say makes them look bad.

All threadbait aside, nobody should get a pass on shit they say because of a label they claim.

Though honestly? This is op venting anonymously, not laying down rules, so... it is what it is. People do that sometimes.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-11 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
DA--I've personally got a problem with telling people what they really said or really meant, when they've actually already said it pretty clearly. OP was eloquent, heartfelt, and very angry. I'm gonna believe s/he said what s/he meant. My reactions to those statements are irrelevant so I'll keep them to myself.
