I don't see a problem with this secret?

I think there's a happy medium between representation and false representation. It's no different from women complaining when female characters are (still) written like cliches from the 1950's, when characters of color are written as stereotypes, etc. You can want representation and still want it accurately portrayed.

And how do you know anon is one of those complaining about the lack of it?

I just have a question that a lot of the angry anons here might be people who write this fetishistic stuff and are massively butthurt. The secret seems pretty obvious to me that its talking about token-y and fetishstic portrayals.

But hey internet LGBT allies/tumblr= "We love you trans* people, we really do. Except if you're a trans man. Except if you tell us not to just treat transness like a choice. and oh how dare you tell us our uninformed portrayals are offensive and objectifying. We love you trans*-people... but only as long as you enable us"

They said "every". That doesn't say 'obviously talking about token-y and fetishstic portrayals' to me. It says EVERY.

No, most of us anons are people who have been told we're bad, hateful cis scum for not being inclusive and writing about trans issues. We're still angry, but we're also glad we didn't waste time trying to appease you.

Honestly, I'm more annoyed by the people flooding the thread to insist that the secret says something that it doesn't than I am with the secret itself

"To every cis person who writes a character as trans in their fanfic"

If someone says "every [label] person", I'm going to assume they mean, y'know, "every [label] person", not "some [label] people".

It's almost as if, when you say "every one of you," people think that what you mean is "every one of you," and not "only the ones of you that are bad."

I mean. I don't rabidly hate every man who has ever written women badly. :/

There's a difference between writing characters who are cliches/stereotypes of X and someone writing a character who also happens to be X. The former is a problem no matter who writes it, and the latter? It's awesome regardless of who writes it since it *is* possible for someone to be empathetic enough to get some idea of what it's like when they do research with the intent of writing it.

The problem here is that the OP *isn't* saying "Just those people who don't do it right" they are, literally, saying every person who is cis shouldn't write trans characters.

But lets not forget they said every. So when someone is mad at a breakup and says "Bronies are scum" you need to jump on them and remind them that many bronies are upstanding puppy petting citizens and every phrase must be prefixed with disclaimers and a dozen footnotes.

#notallcisscum #noteveryonewhoeatsfoodandbreathesair #notallbronies #exceptthatbronyoverthere #fuckthatguy

(Anonymous) 2014-12-11 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
Why would you date a brony in the first place?

(Anonymous) 2014-12-11 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Because #notalljudgementalpeople obviously! I dunno.
