Marvel hasn't failed me yet when it comes to casting.

I keep reminding myself that. Well, aside from Bautista in GotG, he was terrible.

Really? I loved him.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-13 07:02 am (UTC)(link)
Wow okay your opinion is obviously worthless.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-13 10:56 am (UTC)(link)
Aw, I liked Bautista. Plus Pro-wrestling nostalgia.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-12 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
I just feel like in my case it's overexposure. I'm tired of seeing him in everything. Yes, he's a great actor, but I'd just like a fresh face.

I don't get this at all. The only thing I can recall him being in (that you see a lot of) is Sherlock. Maybe The Hobbit but he is a dragon on there.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-12 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Sherlock
The Hobbit
Star Trek Into Darkness
And now MCU

PLUS there's rumors he's going to be in Star Wars (he visited the set for example)

But is this really an unusual phenomenon? I don't hear people complaining about overexposure of Tom Hiddleston, Chris Hemsworth, other actors not in the MCU. I need to watch more movies...

(Anonymous) 2014-12-12 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, as far as I can tell, Tom Hiddleston hasn't done ANY non-MCU related blockbusters. I don' t think I've seen him in anything where he's not playing Loki.

Chris Hemsworth has had some larger roles, but the only one I've seen of his is in Star Trek which was TINY and done before he joined MCU (so it isn't nearly as noticeable to me).

I think the issue with Cumberbatch is that he's jumping into A LOT of franchises.

Hm. maybe I see it less because I rarely watch TV so I see less commercials/trailers?

Tom's most successful other films are probably War Horse and Midnight in Paris, and his roles in those were not as prominent as his MCU roles.

+1000

And they're all franchises that generate loads of fannish content (fic, picspams, discussions, etc.). So it's not just that he's in a huge quantity of geeky media, but that he's constantly brought up in fannish spaces even between films/episodes.

agreeing with anon. I haven't seen Hiddleston or Hemsworth in any major blockbusters, especially not anything that falls into the geeky genres.
Whereas Cumberbatch has been in a bunch of /huge/ franchises. I, too, want to see somebody else already.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-12 11:11 am (UTC)(link)
Probably because Hemsworth and Hiddleston don't have hideously objectionable faces. Cumberbatch is an eyesore, and his rabid Tumblr fanbase insisting he's the hottest actor alive only makes it worse.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-12 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, I think my problem is that I tended to see a lot of Cumberbatch because I liked him and he took roles I liked. So maybe he seems overexposed.

But as an actor, he's not going to be in charge of the film's direction. So it may be a treatment that serves neither him nor the character well.

12 Years A Slave and Star Trek: Into Darkness come to mind.

I forgot about Star Trek but I don't really consider his role in 12 Years A Slave to be all that....in your face or popular.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-12 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
you seem kinda defensive of cumberbatch
kaijinscendre: (Default)

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2014-12-12 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Not really? I don't love him or hate him. He was good in Sherlock and 12 Years A Slave. Haven't seen him in much else.

I am defensive over how vehemently people are against him. And that is because I am willing to bet that a lot of that has to do with his looks.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-12 01:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I am so tired of people saying, "you seem defensive" whenever someone disagrees with the majority here and dares to KEEP disagreeing with them.
