I'm a Jewish singer (strictly smalltime), and I've been known to bust out some Ave Maria and Silent Night for the right audience. When I told my singing teacher I wanted to learn Ave Maria she was like, "ah, looking to pick up some money, huh?" and she was not wrong. I sing to people what they want to hear, and it doesn't hurt to make a buck.

The only time a Christmas Album put out by a Jew bothered me was when Barbra Streisand titled hers "Christmas Memories". Seriously, Babs? Who did you think you're fooling?

I saw that Barbara Streisand album at the store and said to my mom "'Christmas Memories'? So is it all songs about going to the movies and eating Chinese food?" (Note: I am Jewish and yes, that is exactly what I normally do on Christmas. In my house we tend to refer to the holiday as National Jews Go To The Movies Day.)

My family isn't Jewish but there are only a few of us and we aren't religious at all (we are a presents on Christmas, candy on Easter type of family), so a few years ago we started going to the movies on Christmas. It's awesome. Something good always comes out that day.

Ah ha, yes, I'm an atheist and was perfectly happy to learn Christmas songs for busking purposes. People are generous at Christmas!

Oh, God, you're right! That's hilarious. I definitely noticed the Ave Maria inclusion (because that's SUCH a religious song--she rocked the shit out of it, of course) but the title went right over my head. Go, Barbra! Milk that cash cow!
