seeing as NO ONE in the movie seemed at all phased that she was female, i'm guessing that universe is a lot less sexist than ours. i don't see why she would be bothered? like i get where you're going (and also i disagree that it makes her weaker... just more complex)... guess i just disagree that she'd feel that way at all. insecure, sure. putting on bravado for show, sure. doing it because she's a female captain, eh. not really, imo.

And I understand where YOU'RE coming from. This is definitely one of those "mileage may vary" things.

Part of the reason I developed the idea was because of a quote from the official Treasure Planet artbook (that I unfortunately can't find now) that suggested she'd gotten some flack for being one of the youngest captains in the service, and I think it said that she was one of the few females in the navy as well, though I don't know if that played a part in the flack.
