I...honestly don't know. What I see is a lot of young freelancers in arty professions not having a clue wat they should or could charge. You can be good, but unless you made a name for yourself, there are limits to what you can charge and be profitable. now, I agree it might be a dick move for someone else to pint it out - but, it IS entirely possible heir rates are excessive. If you're a fan artist asking near professional rates - then yeah, you might not be getting commissions from your main target audience.

Adding to that - I see it both ways, as well - some people sadly totally undersell their works, considering their skill.

Mostly I see artists underselling themselves, whether for fanart or not.

If your prices are too high, nobody will buy from you.

Well, yes - which, if you're not selling and someone says this - you should rethink your business plan. If you ARE selling, just roll you eyes and ignore the idiot.

Maybe I'm biased. One of my past employers went bankrupt because they, among other things, thought their product was worth more than it was.

I agree but I still think the person saying "your prices are high" is rude unless they were asked their opinion about it.

Bankruptcy sucks, but it's not on all the people who should have told you how to do it; it's on you, if it was only because you set the prices wrong. If you go for so long that you cannot figure out they're too high, you have a bad business sense.

I'm with you on that. I might mention it, in other wording, if it was a friend - but not to a stranger on the internet.

I get your point, but IMO, this is a problem that will resolve itself without the need for anonymous passive-aggressive insults when you don't get very many commissions.

Fair point. I probably wouldn't ask. I will ask for discounts if I buy bulk for pretty much anything, though.

Asking (politely) for a discount on bulk is ok imo as long as you are understanding of the answer either way, because it is so common. Like "hey if I buy $10 do you have a discount price?" Most people would probably say yes.

Anyway it's not the same thing as what's going on in the secret of course |D

Nah, I realize.
