How To Train Your Dragon. I expected it to be "just" a cute movie about a boy and his dragon ok then move along. Instead, bam! cuteness and epicness and tons of awesomeness! instant new fandom obsession! must watch the whole cartoon series and go see the sequel as soon as it came in theaters and start collecting toys and read all the epic fics on AO3 and start writing my own and sweep my previous fandoms under the metaphorical awesome dragonskin rug!

You got caught be the dragon bug (but dragons are awesome so who wouldn't). I enjoyed the first one but have not gotten to see the new one. Was not aware there was a tv series!

They are two seasons of 20 episodes each, taking place in the gap between the movies (but not needed to see the sequel; the series' continuity was crafted to progress in it's own way without creating plotholes related to the at-time hypothetic sequel.)
Also, a couple of shorts, a bit more tied with the first movie.
(A third season is said to be in the works, thought I don't know if it would take place between the second season and the second movie, or after the second movie? My sources fail me on this.)

Forgot to add: Also, go read the book series and compare both universes for added fandom material.
