I agree OP. I'm well known for my fanart but I'm a professional artist as well, and I hate seeing these type of comments.

I understand that everyone has a budget but you know, so do I? I need to pay rent and electricity and internet and car payments and buy food and cleaning supplies and clothing and if I don't have those things it's pretty hard for me to do a commission for you.

It also makes me mad because most artists online actually UNDERCHARGE. Especially when we're dealing with fans who just want a personal use commission we tend to be pretty sympathetic to someone having a budget. But a custom piece of art takes time, so while someone may think it's a lot of money I don't think they are always breaking down how much time costs for an artist.

Like someone said earlier these comments are unnecessary because if someone really is overcharging they won't get commissioned. But half the time when these comments occur an artist has already been commissioned at that price several times before. I know that's how it is for me, I don't randomly set my prices to rip people off, it's usually the average of what I know people will pay me and what I think is livable for me (though I still probably end up undercharging because I am a poor poor person.)

Yes, exactly. The other reason why I don't find the "I'm on a budget and can't afford expensive art!" argument weak is that well, owning art is a luxury. Always has been. It's great to be able to afford it, of course, but it's not a human right so arguing that you're broke so someone should draw you bishie Thorki art for a dollar doesn't really fly.
