I personally believe Katara counts.

Also, there's always Chel. (From Portal.)

I always saw Katara as more related to Inuit or Native American heritage.

But I was just thinking Portal, too, when I saw that secret.

It's funny, most Portal fans are never aware Chel even had a name.

I don't think I found out the main character had a name until a while after I had played the game. Someone told me or I read it somewhere... or something.

The Portal fandom is actually lolz.

Mostly because of the Companion Cube.

You should see the Wiki Talk page. It's so nerdy it's epic.

I'm not in the fandom, really. I played the game once on someone else's computer. XD And can never play it again 'cause I don't own a PC/XBox/PS3. But it was fuuuuuun and I love the snarky robot you kill at the end. And the ending theme song.

I watched my friend play the entire game today. I could probably never played it because I cried just watching some of it. And there were the little robots that said "...I don't hate you..." And then there really WAS a cake! ;_; Plus, the robot reminded me of HAL, who I felt bad for in the first place.

Most people who played Metroid thought she was a guy, til they saw her ponytail.

True, true, I guess. Idk, I was first introduced to her in Smash Bros. because from age 5 to age, like, 11, my entire video game perception was limited to like....Mario, Donkey Kong, and Spyro, so I guess I've always known her as a girl. But I could see where the mistake is made and that it would obviously make people who were in the know a little irritated.

Watch the Smash Bros players use her Final Smash in Brawl only to realize she's a fucking chick with a big chest.

I'm willing to bet a million lulz there are some jock players who will rinse out ehri eyes in shock.

Well true, but I can also see where she's coming from though.

I mean, it's a miracle these days that there are FINALLY more female leads in games in general these days (although female leads get short thrift in Japanese RPG games for the most part), I kinda wish there'd be more diversity now. Maybe I run the risk of sounding ultra PC, but there ya' go.

Although FWIW, I've seen some awesome 'Black Lara Croft' mods for the PC versions of Legend and Anniversary. They're not simple recolors either, which in of itself is impressive.

I've heard some good things about Martha from Doctor Who, too (still need to get around to watching the show).

You'd never find many black people in anime though.

And whatever ones you do find are mostly based off of stereotypes. =/

I dunno. There's Casca from Berserk, who I just mentioned, Urd from Oh My Goddess, Pirotess from Record of Lodoss War, and (IIRC) the character Black Jack also had some skin given to him by a black boy when he was injured (some of the stories in the series take place in Africa, too)...they're not entirely rare, but they're not easy to find, either.
