(Yay, I get to flaunt my bit of knowledge!) The series has always been called Dragon Quest in Japan. However, the name Dragon Quest was licensed in America by someone other than Enix (I think it was a tabletop RPG or something similar) and so they couldn't use that name here. They opted instead for Dragon Warrior. When the license ran out between the stateside releases of VII and VIII, they snapped it up, and so from VIII on, the games are titled Dragon Quest in America as well.

So... anyone else sad about the closing of Slime Knights? Stupid move on Squenix's part, in my opinion.

Oh, and about playing it now! ROMs are out there I'm sure, but I've stuck to rereleases for my fix. I, II, and III are available in English on Gameboy Color, and IV's being remade for the DS. Only time will tell if IV will make it to the US. I'm hoping so, and have my fingers crossed that the other two installments in that trilogy, V and VI, will be remade and released here for the first time ever.

IV actually already has English (along with Spanish, Italian, French and German) text in it, the grammar and punctuation are a bit wonky but they're there so I'm assuming it's going to be coming out over here once they get it localized and stuff. DQ was Husband's first RPG and I've heard the plot for 4 (which is still one of his favorite games ever) so many times I feel like I've already played the game. Though that's not going to stop me once the English release of DQIV comes out. ^_^
