I'd make two points here:

1) Walk The Line was based on Cash's autobiographies and I'm fairly sure that his estate was involved in at least some way. I would assume the same was true for Jett and Dylan. You do get biopics that are unauthorized occasionally (they did something with Aaliyah recently IIRC) but... those tend to be pretty controversial as well so I'm not sure that works in your favor.

2) Finding Neverland was about somebody who had been dead for decades.

So I think from those two points, we can draw some rough outlines for working out when making fiction about real people is and isn't acceptable. Namely, it's worse when they are alive or when people who knew them and loved them are alive, when their being as human beings still exists for us, and it's worse when it's done without their consent or at least the knowledge and influence of those who knew them well and loved them.

The fact that a lot of time passed for various biopics isn't, you know, irrelevant, is the problem with your argument.

I think this lays it out pretty well. It's an issue of a) consent and b) potential for real life impact.
