Of course you fucking do, because then you'd want to fuck her. Or him, I guess.

I'm sorry, I know this is a stereotypical response, but come on. She's a perfectly interesting character and I honestly can't see any way in which she'd be more interesting as a guy. You can maybe talk about how it would be interesting if she had flipped genders, but flipping genders was already a part of Dax's character

I don't think she was interesting, but it wasn't because she was a woman and she would have been just as annoying as a guy. Possibly more, as IMO Trek's male fresh-faced ensigns were always worse than its female fresh-faced ensigns.

I thought the gender flip from Curzon to Jadzia was interesting, less because of the gender than because of the old platonic friends dynamic that she had with Sisko, which was so rare to see in any media.

I found her bland. Meh

(Anonymous) 2014-12-18 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
I kinda agree! It would have been neat to see Dax come back as a guy, and have to deal with Worf and Bashir, and everyone else having to adjust to 'Jadzia' as a guy. I'm not sure Trek ever actually showed on screen a female Trill character moving its symbiont on into a man.

All I wanted for her was her not to date Bashir. (Ezri/Quark OTP.)

Seriously though, I'm not seeing why her being a guy would make her more interesting.

She was fine.

ok now I have to wonder if your username was based on Dax.

Of course it was! ^^

For myself, I'd have found it interesting to see the gender switch again (we know it happened before with Curzon, but we haven't really seen the impact of that).

However, poor Ezri, though. She gets so much hate - and the reality is she jut had incredibly big shoe to fill after Jadzia, and I('m not sure that would have been different if she were a guy.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-18 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
It didn't help that Ezri had no real role. Sisko wanted the Dax part of her around, and pulled a lot of strings to make that happen instead of sending her back to Trill to get the psychological help she really needed because Ezri had never been prepped for being co-joined, but he didn't give a rats ass about the Ezri part that came bundled with the Dax.

I'd have liked to have seen male-Dax just to see how it would have impacted on Worf. Of all the people, even Sisko, he is the one that had the most trouble with Ezri; just imagine what that would have been like with a male Dax. Especially with how uptight Worf is.

On that note, I always regretted the didn't dig into the psychological part deeper. Because it was clearly there.

And great point about Worf. Though would have been interesting.

It would have been hilarious if everyone assumed he'd have issues, because he's so uptight, and then it turned out that there was zero Klingon taboos about bisexuality.

I think Worf would be uptight because he's...Worf. He sort of seemed uptight about sexuality in general. What would have been hilarious for me, would have been if Worf was actually shown to be an exception in that regard, with most other Klingons thinking he's a prude.

Oh man, that would have been amazing.

One of the things that I dislike about ST was the tendency to generalize an entire species. We hardly ever saw Klingons who weren't warriors. Bajorans got some complexity, and Cardassians a little, but the major races were kind of one-trait people. I'd have love it if they met some Klingons who were like, "no, that's just Worf, he's weird and we think he's overcompensating a bit."

It is a shame she only came in on the final season. Every character's first season sucks (except Troi whose first seven seasons, four movies, and Voyager guest slot's all sucked) but Ezri had no follow up season to develop her beyond her basic character traits. That was the problem.

[personal profile] kallanda_lee 2014-12-18 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that is that's true. I think she had great potential, that as sadly never used. I was actually really glad to see the actress after Deepwater Black was prematurely aborted after one season, but then it seemed like sort of a sad deja-vu.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-18 01:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! Somebody else who remembers Deepwater Black!

So, you liked Troi's appearance on Enterprise then?

(Anonymous) 2014-12-18 12:11 pm (UTC)(link)
It was Enterprise, not even Troi could be the suckiest thing on that. Hell, they could have brought Neelix onto that series and it wouldn't noticeably get worse.

Nah.

Like somebody mentioned in this thread, I really think Ezri gets a bad rap. She's not Jadzia who is kinda the pinnacle of Trek characters for me. Tough act to follow.

I thought Ezri did fabulously with dealing with remaking relationships with the crew while being confused and emotionally vulnerable and not having the coping mechanisms to deal with what happened to her.

I don't think her being a guy makes her better.
