What brand did you use? I use Ohropax Soft Foam earplugs, which stay in even when I use them to sleep. They don't block out sound completely (which I prefer), but they make outside noise ignorable. When I work I still want to be able to hear the bell ringing, or when sleeping my alarm clock in the morning.

Earplugs? I think they might be less effort than mass murder and they work like a charm for me!

My neighbour's hellspawn likes playing police by riding on his bycicle around our yard - which my window faces, naturally - and imitating a police siren at a volume that shouldn't be humanly possible. And he's got his friends and brother to do it now, too. There isn't a single adult in our building not ready to strangle the little bastard, including his own mother, but on the other hand, he's just a kid having fun. But fuck, it's annoying, and my living room window faces a playground. I have a high tolerance for kids being loud and annoying!

So, I feel you and recommend earplugs. They do wonder for my sanity.

I sometimes dream about that. Not the murder (usually), but that all the bits of space that are mine are floating in this calm, empty void, and I just wander around empty corridors eating nice things and listening to the silence.

I don't do people very well. Even when they're being quiet. I once terrified some kids who prank-pulled our fire alarm by running down the stairs at them in my pyjamas screaming like a banshee because they did this shit at 3am and I had to be up by five and with the fucking fire alarm already wailing there was no reason not to roar blue bloody murder at them.

It was cathartic, if not particularly wise. Especially since I forgot my keys.

I have similar fantasies.

I love my family and my life and my work, but my most consistent fantasy is just leaving for like four days and spending all of them in a luxurious hotel where everything is absolutely silent and I mostly sleep and take baths and sit on the terrace and drink tea and go down for dinner in the fabulous hotel restaurant. LOL

I once took a trip where I did just this. I'm pretty sure the people who run the hotel thought I was a weirdo because all I did was order expensive room service and watch movies by myself. It was the most relaxing holiday I've ever had. No regrets.

No, trying to finally get an ounce of sleep now that finals are over. It bothers me even when I'm not doing anything though. I just really really hate "noticeable" sounds. Like, I can handle a busy restaurant where everyone is talking, because nothing sticks out. It's basically white noise. But this...isn't.
