Because what makes women feel tingly and warm is hardwired into the brain. But women must overcome endorphins for the CAUSE! Yeah, whatever. I'm not a fan of the genre and wish it would go away, but my tastes are not those of millions of women. Those books make them happy, so quit judging.

Otherwise everyone would have the same tastes the whole world over, and throughout recorded history, and that's absolutely not the case.

Someone did a study. I'd look it up if I could think of the right search terms. The gist of it was women are wired to look for men who would provide and physically protect them. This was counter to the result they were looking for so it made the news.

I hate studies like this. Or at least, I hate the way they're touted and circulated. It just makes people point at them and go "see, this is what women really want!!!" and then apply it to all women.

One study means sod all anyway. You need many, peer reviewed, to even start to draw proper conclusions.

I hate how the media reports on science, with complete misunderstanding of how the process works. It's a personal bugbear.

For instance, that widely-quoted study about older womens' fertility dropping sharply, came from one study that used Victorian data. It was about historical fertility levels with a very small sample size, yet I've seen the data quoted dozens of times, scaremongering women into having kids early. As if that study had anything to say to modern women about how to plan a family.

True! And that sounds really frustrating. :/ Especially since there's plenty of science on fertility to look at. One old, badly-performed study is hardly worth looking at in the first place.

"Hard-wiring" isn't as hard as these studies would have you believe.
