I almost always go for more mod harshness when this type of question is asked. Most of the sites I've been on have folks who do nothing but cause wank, but never get banned because a): the mods really don't like banning people, or b): they haven't done anything technically against the rules, because nobody's bothered to write a "don't be a total asshat" rule. (I've been on two sites that I thought were too trigger-happy, but that was a matter of unflinching rule enforcement with no regard for context--I still think "don't be a total asshat" is one rule that's worth banning people over.)

(And yes, I realize I have been accused of being a total asshat.)

P.S. For what it's worth, I find it amazing how quickly Case deals with problem threads. He knows when to freeze and when to just delete, and he keeps the biggest trolls from causing any real problems.
