Re: Fandom grudges thread
You're a big believer in logic and reason, and you think all of your beliefs are based in logic. If anyone disagrees with you, you conclude that they must be illogical, letting their emotions getting the better of them, and you talk to them like you're a parent and they're a disobedient child. You get indignant if you're accused of insulting others--they're not insults, they're factual statements! And of course, even if you declare that the other person is so illogical you can't reason with them, you never, ever let anyone else get the last word, continuing to post until every other poster has given up discussing the subject.
Your idea of logic is so incredibly ruthless that the villain in a magical girl anime would think you're too cold-blooded. When people WTF at you for advocating mass murder, it's not because they can't accept the necessary cost, it's because your "necessary cost" is completely over-the-top! But frankly, your utter sociopathy doesn't even bug me as much as your total condescension and complete imperviousness to any logic or reason not your own!
Honestly, if I tried to say this to your face, you'd find some way to tell me I was being illogical and letting my emotions get the best of me. So I think I'll just delete your comments on my fic if you keep insulting my other commenters. I know it's bad etiquette to delete comments on the site in question, but I refuse to believe it's good etiquette to let you keep running your mouth at folks who're trying to be polite.
Person 2:
I run a group that collects short stories in my fandom. You made ten new additions to the group, all of which I deleted for length violations. When I informed you of this, this was your full and complete response:
Many of the stories in the collections and anthologies I submitted are under 2,500 words. Some are not. Are you saying that a collection of short stories can have NO stories that are over 2,500 words within the anthology as a whole? That seems truly, drastically, severe.
I would find it difficult to believe that having a mixture of short story lengths within a given anthology would not be commonplace. Additionally, 2500 words is closer to short-short story length. From Wikipedia:
In contemporary usage, the term short story most often refers to a work of fiction no shorter than 1,000 and no longer than 20,000 words (5 to 20 pages). Stories of fewer than 1,000 words are sometimes referred to as "short short stories",[5] or "flash fiction."
As a point of reference for the genre writer, the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America define short story length in the Nebula Awards for science fiction submission guidelines as having a word count of fewer than 7,500.
Based on, well, the real world, it might be reasonable to reconsider the length you are willing to accept.
Just . . . go fuck yourself.
(For reference, this chick is pretty much the Anne Rice of my particular fandom. She's absolutely legendary for the size of the bitch-fits she throws when people criticize her writing, to the point that when I complained anonymously about a bitch-fit someone had thrown, the very first comment asked if I was talking about her.)
