Heroes of Olympus

I read all of Percy Jackson and the Olympians a few years ago and liked it, mostly for the world and its take on mythology. The only (still alive) characters I really liked by the end were Nico, Thalia, and Rachel; and I hated Percy/Annabeth since it was first hinted at.

But... I really liked the worldbuilding and those three characters. I'm especially curious about Nico since I've read some of the spoilers. Is it worth it?

The last book ends a bit on a "ugh need to get this done" note but Nico has some very nice character development in the other books in the series so for him alone, it would be worth it.

For Nico? Ehhh, maybe? I think tumblr is divided on if they like Nico's implied love interest. Personally I like the guy, and the whole dark/light, life/death thing, while cliche, is a guilty trope of mine.

For the others? Noooo, nonono. No. There was so much build up on Frank dying, Percy's fatal flaw, Hazel having to make a hard choice with Leo, and it all fizzled. I was so surprised, usually I love his endings.

He's working on a new gods series, though. It's going to be about Norse mythology and take place in Boston (My hometown, yaya) so I'm super excited for that.

Is tumblr divided on that? I got the impression the ship was taking off big time. Hell, I kinda like it, and I haven't cared about the sequel series at all.

They're angry he's a side character/cliche.

Side character is kind of a given though, right? LOL, as if Riordan was going to break up any of his existing couples so a main character ship could happen. Fandom, please.

And cliche or not, I've actually liked that kid since his introduction scene in Last Olympian. I am totally on board with his ascension to the role of Nico's trophy boyfriend.

I like him. I think him being overly protective of Nico's health was adorable. I was surprised to see tumblr so 'meh' about him.

Mild spoilers herein

I still don't understand this. It was obvious Nico wasn't going to end up with Percy or anything. What were the alternatives? Not giving him any LI would have resulted in people whining about "Wah, the gay character stays lonely again, how typical" and of all the side characters there were, I think the character in question was one of the only ones developed enough to actually make sense. Riordan couldn't have made up a whole new character just for that purpose in the final book, that would have been ridiculous.

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES

Ahem.

I like Heroes of Olympus even more than how much I adored the original Percy Jackson series.
