It seems especially petty considering that in every way that counts outside the tiny insular microcosm of Tumblr fandom, Sherlock has "won" in every possible way that counts: BAFTAs and Emmys and huge, huge ratings that rake in the $$$ and pretty much guarantee the cast can do this for the rest of their lives if they want, on whatever terms they want. Elementary has never won anything and hangs on by a thread a lot of the time. (It came up for some reason at my job the other day and most of the people in there had never even heard of it).)

Well, Elementary wasn't even on mainstream television in the UK, whereas Sherlock is a huge Christmas event, along with Doctor Who and Wallace & Gromit (although the latter not so much recently, more's the pity).

I don't know how it is in other countries.

I'm in the US. Totally unofficial office conversation suggested that most people there knew about Sherlock (which airs on PBS here as part of the Masterpiece Mystery series) and had seen at least a little bit of it, because it was talked about a lot and made news, etc. It's sort of in the same category with Downton Abbey - "classy" British stuff you've got to watch if you want to seem cultured. Elementary wasn't nearly as well-known.
