Heeeee.
Yeah, that guy needed to see a doctor but, you know, it takes gangrene a *wee* bit longer to set in....

Yeah, I know. The gangrene was in reference to this comment, which was clever and made me laugh.

Hehe.
A lot of the people in the comments seemed to think he'd have an infection and die overnight, though. That's another thing about F!S medical threads - the person asking *knows* they need to see a doctor, the people reply tend to overreact and posit the *worst possible outcome/diagnosis ever* no matter what.

As a child of two medical professionals, it's kind of amusing to see all the shrieking and flailing on both sides.

Yeah. I feel you. It's pretty funny. While you should see a doctor before things get bad, the chances of you dying or losing your genitalia or whatever are very slim.

Every time something is even the slightest bit off, I automatically assume that I have the worst diagnosis I could possibly get and that I'm going to die. Living like this for a few years, I've learned that nine times out of ten, I'm probably not going to die and it's probably not going to be as bad as I worried it would be. I've also learned to never go to the Internet about any medical problems, because if you didn't think you'd die before, you would afterwards.

Oh, man. No offense, but that drives me nutso. My SO's mom is like that. Everything that happens? 'It's cancer'. OMFG. It's not fucking cancer, would you get a grip, woman.

I just...grew up with people who didn't react much to blood and illness. You just - dealt and moved on and not much would actually kill you, so - you're fine. Have a jigger of brandy and honey and go to bed. Heh.

That's always my first thought. My bowel movements are off? Colon cancer. My stomach feels too inflated? Stomach cancer. It grips me for about two minutes, then I get rational.

I guess it's because my mom asked me to feel something that she'd found in the shower a couple of days before and the next thing you know, I was feeling a lump on her breast. She died three agonizing years later.

So, you know, sometimes it's as bad as you first think.

Yeah, sometimes it might be, but even if it is, getting hysterical won't fix it. Stress just makes things worse. I guess that's my mom's German side of the family - don't fuss. You cut your finger? You broke your leg? You have cancer? Don't fuss. Figure out what you need to do, and do it, and don't dwell on it.

I'm so sorry about your mother, that's just not fair.
