Frankly, I think people are just too used to using God as an excuse to enforce what they believe. It's why pro-life protestors think it's a sin to kill one of God's innocent creations, but at the same time they give no fucks about crippling welfare programs that benefit children. Abortions kill babies! But free lunch programs for kids is teaching them to become welfare leeches!

Technology has advanced so far that every damn thing we do could be called "playing God". I'm healthy right now because of medication. Without that medication (which I will need for as long as I live), I will suffer and have only a very poor quality of life and a shortened life span. But nobody's slapping the insulin out of diabetics' hands and accusing them of playing God instead of dying a slow death or losing limbs due to nerve damage. Likewise, people aren't bombing chemo centers to prevent cancer patients from getting treatment.

It's highly selective, and not very rational.
