Re: thoughts on case's modding ability

I actually wish Case WOULD turn IP logging (not permanently, just periodically) and actually track and ban some troublemakers and antagonizers, instead of just using it as a preventive measure.

But that would take a lot of work, and I get why he doesn't.

Your grand plan wouldn't work because trolls can already see if ip logging's on and can adjust their behavior accordingly.

Yeah, but I think you'll always find someone who posted without realizing, or just doesn't care because they know nothing but a slap on the wrist is coming. Also, I sure wouldn't lose any sleep if "WARNING! IP LOGGING IS ON AND CASE WILL STEAL YOUR SHIT/END THE WORLD!!!!" anon got the boot.

Rude, they take their job very seriously.

But really, I think you're underestimating what else shitstirrers contribute. They wouldn't be doing dumb shit here if they weren't already invested in this place.

If I recall some stuff that Case has said in the past correctly, apparently some of the trolls are also serious, legit posters

they just also troll a bunch

I don't think having a username and being a regular should give people a license to troll though. Always-Anons and Regulars Going Anon should be punished the same for excessively trolling. Because trolling is either a bad thing to do or it's fun times (for more than the troll). And given the number of people who advocate for permanent IP logging, I'd say a fair bunch aren't seeing the laughs.

But like I said: Too much work to implement, so this is all just theoretical chatter.

I would point out that (a) the fact that Case can see that some people both troll and make legitimate contributions when IP logging is on does not imply that said people are also logged in users and (b) the consequences are currently the same for always-anon and named users, and I'm not sure that there's a way to change that being discussed. My point was just to keep that in mind.
