Well I suppose I'm in good company

Basically all published writers don't warn for character death so I'm not too bothered by you saying it's a "cheap trick" and "pretentious," OP.

No offense but I am more than happy to be grouped with basically every great writer to have ever existed.

More of a compliment than anything.

So, where are all the published reviews of your fic? "Every great writer" who publishes books professionally also has to deal with book reviews that spoil major plot points. Any person wishing to be "warned" for a character death just needs to read the published reviews before they buy.

Well readers leave reviews all the time. They may not mention spoilers in their reviews (though some do of course) but that's not my problem. Lots of book reviewers don't spoil the story either. That said, my point was more geared towards the fact that I'm not going to change my writing habits when they coincide with something the best writers do. And telling me that they're "cheap" or "pretentious" isn't really doing anything to convince me either.

Fan fiction is not the same as published original fiction

Or even unpublished original fiction
