Since we've had a few "30+ year old virgin" threads...

(Anonymous) 2014-12-21 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Does anyone else not drink?

I don't drink, and in your twenties that cancels out a looot of social stuff. Plus, people think it's because I'm super religious or something. (I actually had a friend say she wasn't sure we could hang out for the weekend if I wasn't willing to go to a bar. Looking back yeah, she was a bitch, but fortunately I pretty much told her that and she got over it.) I drink a bit, but it's hard for me to find a drink I like, and I don't like how being tipsy feels.

Anyone else?

TBH, I don't enjoy going to bars because they are not an enjoyable setting and I DO drink a bit (I'mma one beer/glass of wine with dinner type).

I hardly drink alcohol. The last time was because my college secret santa present was a four-pack of Fosters.

Yeah me two.

God people get weird when you say you don't drink. They automatically assume that you are judging them. I don't drink because it tastes like cough syrup to me. I don't care if people drink but I just really don't want to.

Yup. Granted I haven't really tried much alcohol (never been that curious about it...suppose I'm boring), but the stuff I've tasted has been disgusting. Don't think I have a taste for the stuff. If I did like it I wouldn't have an issue with having a drink now and then, but...*shrugs*

I don't drink. Don't like the taste, and I'm diabetic so alcohol isn't really a good idea for me in general. It's never put a cramp in my social life, though... maybe because I usually offer to be designated driver for everyone? My friends also have a wide range of interests and even though they like alcohol, they don't necessarily like bars.

I don't drink anything with alcohol in it. I don't even use mouthwash with alcohol in I hate it that much.

I drink basically once or twice a year when I'm with family at big dinners (like for Christmas or birthdays).

But I never drink by myself or go to bars.

I used to drink at work events but I stopped after showing some terrible judgement once and downing a bottle of white wine in hour. I just don't trust myself anymore.

I guess I don't fit your definition OP, but I don't really consider myself a drinker.

I do drink, but when I go out I'm often the driver, and there's no way I'm getting behind a wheel drunk. If I know I'll be staying long, I might have one at the beginning, but often I just don't drink at all. Some of m friends have pointed it out, but mostly they're cool about it, and they know I'm fun without booze as well.

I don't drink much, I'll have a glass of wine or a fruity cocktail at Christmas or my birthday, otherwise I don't bother. Drinking too much has a nasty habit of giving me bad dreams so I prefer to just stave off drinking altogether rather than risk it most of the time. Which is annoying because their are some alcoholic drinks I quite like.

Count me as another person who basically doesn't drink. I don't much care for the taste or how I feel (never gotten anywhere near drunk and have no interest in it). I only drink drinks that are super sweet or taste fruity (wine coolers and such). We're not big drinkers in my family (partly religious on one side and there's some alcoholic tendencies on the other) so there isn't an expectation that it shows up at family parties and so I don't tend to associate it with social gatherings and it's always a little jarring for me when it comes up (same with coffee -- no one in my family drinks coffee).

I don't drink because alcohol is empty calories and I don't like being drunk anyway. So.

I drink a lot but, jokes aside, I never understood how people can judge other people for not drinking. Is that really a thing that matters to people? I mean I don't understand people who don't drink but that's true of a million things in the world and it's such an arbitrary thing to judge people over.

Virgin and a non-drinker here. I just cannot get past the absolutely disgusting flavor. It was almost a relief when I was diagnosed with GERD and later anxiety because I can just say, "that would tear a hole in my insides" or "yeah, no thanks, I'm pretty sure a vodka/zoloft cocktail will have me high-fiving Jesus in the morning".

I don't drink, never have. It shouldn't cancel out social stuff, though. I mean - i would go with friends and the SO to a bar or concert or camping and they would smoke weed or drink and i wouldn't and we'd still all have a good time. If you're with people you like and get along with, you don't have to drink or do drugs to enjoy the activity. Even just sitting around camping when everyone was high, we still had a lot of fun conversations and told stories and looked at the stars.

*shrug*

I dunno, it's never been a social block to me.

I barely drink. I have no problem with alcohol in moderation, I just forget that we have it. And, when I do drink, it's not much because I don't like the feeling of intoxication.

I've never had a problem with it, though, outside of this one girl in college, but she was just really rude in general. Most people are perfectly fine, or go the "Well, more for me!" route.

I drank a fair amount in my twenties but now I practically never do (in my thirties.) I have a few drinks I like the taste of (mostly super fruity drinks where you barely taste alcohol lol) and I do enjoy being tipsy (I don't like being majorly drunk though so I don't often go much beyond that and I am NEVER blackout drunk) but these days it's more about the time it wastes. Like you spend a whole night drinking and the next day even if you aren't hung over you still feel tired and you end up just like... wasting two days.

I guess I'm too old and tired for that now, if I'm going to waste two days I'd rather do it watching netflix lol. The good news is anon that when you get older the pressure to drink lessens, like people still may want you to drink and come out but it's not THE THING you always do anymore. Unless you know some real alcoholics most people get other priorities as they get older and are willing to spend their time with you doing other things.

I'm nearly 30 and I don't drink at all. In Ireland. This would probably be more of a social impediment, but I'm not particularly social anyway, so it doesn't matter too much. If I want a chat I just go to cafes with people during the day instead.

I also don't react too well to drunk people, because of a combination of the smell, the unpredictability, the tendency towards vomiting, and a couple of incidents where intense/violent people + drinking didn't go so well for me. My reaction doesn't go down too well with some of the people I know who drink to drunkenness a lot. A lot of people take it as me judging them or as a personal affront. It's not, it's just that a) I don't drink and am never going to, and b) I don't like being around drunk people, so I bugger off when drinking looks set to happen.

I did try alcohol when I was younger, but not much. I've really only tried wine, and I'd say only about maybe three glasses-worth total in my life. It just doesn't interest me.

I don't drink. It's not that I'm morally opposed or anything, I just don't really do it because it's expensive and I have to have several drinks to get past the unwell feeling that alcohol induces and get to the fun part. But then again, my friends don't typically drink (we go out for tea instead) and I'm not interested in relationships, so it was only a problem when I was living in Japan and it was absolutely required of me to go drinking with my coworkers.
I'm 30, btw.

I drink alcohol, but I think it's totally fine and normal if you choose not to. The whole 'should you or shouldn't you drink' debate is silly.

I stopped drinking after I reinstalled Day of Defeat Source.

I mean what if I'd done something REALLY bad like reinstall Natural Selection?

well i drink but not often and i used to not drink at all. it took me awhile to find things i like. not much of a beer person unless it's gumballhead and that tastes more like a shandy than anything. i prefer mixed drinks (white russians and hairy navels are my fav) but fireball alone is ok too, if you like cinnamon. i have no understanding on how some folks can drink any other whiskey/bourbon/what have you. it sincerely tastes like ass to me

I pretty much don't drink anymore--I've finally given up and admitted I can't stand the taste (outside of vodka coolers). I've been drunk a few times in my life and it was okay--helps I don't get hangovers either. Also, now that I'm an insulin dependent diabetic, it would fuck with my sugars too much.

Most people just express surprise I don't drink but don't get pushy about it once I explain why. Coffee drinkers are actually worse when I tell them I don't like the taste of coffee...

I don't drink, ever. I'm middle aged now but I think I was just such an insecure, uptight kid that I was afraid of losing control of a situation. Now, funnily enough, not drinking is very handy--since I don't associate "fun" with "drinking" I can go out to see a band on a work night, or be the DD, and I have no sense of missing out because I can't drink at those times.

Oh, yeah...

(Anonymous) 2014-12-22 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
I don't drink, I physically can't smoke, being buzzed makes me feel like I have a concussion--

Yeah, it's weird to a lot of people, but I'm not going to mess myself up for your preferences, you know?
