Re: I'm confused by people in this thread saying people don't haggle over computers or TVs.
(Anonymous) 2014-12-22 06:01 am (UTC)(link)Re: I'm confused by people in this thread saying people don't haggle over computers or TVs.
(Anonymous) 2014-12-22 06:21 am (UTC)(link)It's usually more of a "Well, worth a shot, right?" If you say no and they keep persisting then yeah, they're a dick, but what the fuck is wrong with amicably trying to reach some sort of compromise?
Also most retailers who sell big ticket items will try to convince you to spend as much money as possible and get all sorts of shit you don't need. In that situation turnabout's fair play imo.
Re: I'm confused by people in this thread saying people don't haggle over computers or TVs.
(Anonymous) 2014-12-22 06:23 am (UTC)(link)But hey, I'm the dick for being poor and not wanting to lose a cent out of my bonus that I use to actually stay ahead a little bit. Sure.
This is why I think you're full of yourselves and an entitled ass.
Re: I'm confused by people in this thread saying people don't haggle over computers or TVs.
(Anonymous) 2014-12-22 06:36 am (UTC)(link)It's like the fucking ridiculous tipping system in America. Employers pay their workers like $4 an hour and expect them to rely on tips, then the workers get angry at customers who don't tip them. For everyone else in the world it's plainly obvious that the employer is the one who's screwing you over, and that the customer has no obligation to give you handouts to supplement your fucking absurdly low wages out of pity. It sucks for the worker, sure, but it's in absolutely no way the customer's fault.
Re: I'm confused by people in this thread saying people don't haggle over computers or TVs.
(Anonymous) 2014-12-22 10:06 am (UTC)(link)As a final point, I cannot fucking believe you're trying to justify salespeople actively trying to rip customers off, while simultaneously condemning the customers for trying to get a good deal. "It's their job!" doesn't change anything. You're pressuring people in to spending money they don't want to spend, and you're saying they're somehow screwing YOU over if they don't bend over and take it.
You have some mind-bogglingly warped ideals. Again, I hope I never get served by you.
Re: I'm confused by people in this thread saying people don't haggle over computers or TVs.
(Anonymous) 2014-12-22 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)I'm not saying you ave to bend over and take it. You can say no. Like, seriously, when a cashier brings up the store has a card, they can get fired for not bringing it up. Fancy that: they want to keep their job! Same if a store worker brings up things you get discounts on with that item: they literally have to. They will literally get fired if they don't. That you don't know this tells me you're not bad off at all, because literally everyone who has worked retail in America knows this. No one likes doing this unless they're an asswipe, and I have met no one who likes "pressuring" people to buy extra things. Believe me, we know you probably won't, but we have to anyway.
Re: I'm confused by people in this thread saying people don't haggle over computers or TVs.
(Anonymous) 2014-12-22 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)You're genuinely saying if I go into a store and buy something like a stove, which I need to live (ie not a luxury good) and haggle for $35 off the price (which I have done), it comes directly out of your paycheck as the employee on the floor that day who sold it to me?
I'm not sure I even believe that.
All discounts usually have to go through managers, in my experience, and they usually have a policy for them. If it affects your bonus--well, that's the nature of working in a service industry that relies on bonuses. Don't take it out on the customer.
It's probably a good thing you're not working retail any more.
Re: I'm confused by people in this thread saying people don't haggle over computers or TVs.
(Anonymous) 2014-12-22 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)if you've never ever tried to haggle on even say an automobile
okay
but if you did
you are a total hypocrite
Re: I'm confused by people in this thread saying people don't haggle over computers or TVs.
(Anonymous) 2014-12-22 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)Also, again, you're assuming the person haggling is doing it for an item they don't need. Even if it is a plasma TV or something, you don't know shit about them or why they want it. Don't just systematically assume the worst. Stop being such a whiny, judgemental arse.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-22 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)haven't you ever been so close to broke you've asked someone somewhere to give you a break on something
